Notion AI Pricing (2026): What Seats and Credits Really Cost
A layer-by-layer reading of Notion's plans, credits and allowances, checked against Notion's own pricing and help pages and four review sources.
Summary
Notion AI pricing now sits inside the Business plan: $20 per member per month billed annually ($24 monthly), with Free and Plus limited to a trial. Heavier work runs on credits at $10 per 1,000, and Notion's own examples put one agent run at roughly $0.03 to $0.30. Reviewers rate the product 4.6 on G2 and 4.7 on Capterra but only 2.2 on Trustpilot, mostly over billing. Good value if you already work in Notion; unpredictable if you do not.
Notion AI pricing is not one price but three layers: a seat ($20 per member on Business billed annually, $24 monthly), a bundled AI allowance with undisclosed limits, and optional credits at $10 per 1,000. Free and Plus only get a trial. Our verdict is 7/10: fair for teams already living in Notion, hard to budget for anyone who needs heavy agent use.

- AI is bundled into Business at $20 per member (annual), so no separate add-on to track
- Credit prices are published: $10 per 1,000 monthly, $13 per 1,000 on annual terms
- Notion publishes per-run cost ranges for five agent types, which few vendors do
- Free and Plus only get a limited trial, so real use means paying for Business
- The included AI allowance has no published number, only six-hour and monthly windows
- Credits expire and cannot be bought on Free or Plus, which makes budgeting awkward

How this pricing audit was built
- Plan paid
- No paid plan purchased: published pricing and help documentation audited
- Version tested
- Plans, credits and limits as shown on notion.com/pricing and Notion's credit help pages, captured October 16 to 17, 2026
- Test period
- 2026-10-16 → 2026-10-17
This is a pricing audit, not a hands-on benchmark. We did not buy a Notion subscription, so we make no claim about response latency, summary accuracy or hallucination rates. What we did do: load notion.com/pricing live on October 16 and 17, 2026 and read each plan line by line; read Notion's Custom Agent credit help page, including its per-run cost table; cross-check the monthly versus annual seat and credit rates against a September 2026 third-party pricing breakdown that cites Notion's documentation; and aggregate public ratings and complaint themes from G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and Reddit threads on the same subject. Every figure carries its source in the notes. Where Notion publishes no number, such as the size of the bundled AI allowance, we say so rather than estimate.
Should you pay for Notion AI?
YES if you...
- Teams that already keep their wiki, notes and project records in Notion and want AI to search them
- Researchers and consultants on Business who want workspace Q&A over their own pages
- Admins who can set a monthly credit budget and review the usage dashboard
NO if you...
- Anyone on Free or Plus hoping to buy AI as a cheap add-on: the standalone add-on no longer exists
- Solo readers whose main need is summarizing PDFs with citations, where a dedicated tool or a general chatbot costs about $20 a month
- Teams that cannot tolerate agents pausing when credits run out mid-month

ROI breakdown: For ten members, moving from Plus to Business adds $100 a month on annual terms ($120 monthly) before a single credit is bought. That upgrade, not the credit price, is the real entry fee for AI.
Hidden costs & gotchas
- Credits are sold on Business and Enterprise only, so Plus teams pay the plan upgrade first
- Annual credits cost $13 per 1,000 against $10 monthly, and the credit type follows the subscription
- Unused credits expire, monthly ones at each reset
- Custom domains and branding cost $8 per domain per month annually, on top of the plan

Pros and cons
Pros
- AI is bundled into Business instead of sold as a separate add-on One seat price covers the workspace and the included AI features.
- Per-run cost ranges are published for five agent types Notion lists $0.03 to $0.30 per run, so a team can estimate before it commits.
- Admins get usage alerts and a credits dashboard Notices fire at 80% and 100% of credit usage.
- Students and educators get Plus free for one member A real discount for researchers, though it does not unlock Business AI features.
Cons
- The bundled AI allowance has no published size Notion describes six-hour and monthly windows but gives no number.
- Credits expire and cannot be bought below Business A quiet month wastes money and a Plus team must upgrade first.
- Trustpilot reviewers report billing and cancellation disputes At 2.2 out of 5 from 439 reviews, the themes are unexpected charges, refund refusals and slow support.
- Notion AI is general workspace AI, not a citation-first reader For passages traced back to page numbers in long PDFs, a dedicated summarizer is the closer fit.
Final verdict
Notion AI is worth its price if two things are already true: your notes, wikis and project records live in Notion, and someone on the team will own the credit budget. In that case the $20 per member Business plan buys search and drafting across your own pages, with per-run costs published.
It is a poor purchase as a standalone AI subscription. Free and Plus offer only a trial, the old add-on is gone, and the cheapest path to real use is the Business tier. For a reader who mostly needs to compress long papers while keeping citations intact, a general assistant at about $20 a month, or a tool built for documents, is the more direct spend.
Our score is 7 out of 10. Pricing is published with unusual candour for credits, but the unsized allowance and expiring credits keep cost predictability low. Revisit the numbers in 60 to 90 days.
- Pricing clarity 6/10 Credits are clear, the allowance is not
- AI value inside Notion 7.5/10 Strong if your knowledge already lives there
- Cost predictability 5.5/10 Expiring credits, unsized allowance
- Fit for research reading 6.5/10 General workspace AI, not citation-first
- Data handling terms 7/10 No training on your data unless you opt in; zero retention on Enterprise
